Addressing online sexual predation among at-risk youth

This project, called “Reducing Digital Inequality by Empowering At-Risk Youth to be Resilient against Online Sexual Predation Risks,” addresses the urgent need to close the digital divide for at-risk youth—especially those from low-income and minority backgrounds—by equipping them with the skills and confidence to navigate online predation.

Rejecting fear-based or punitive models, the project takes a strength-based, human-centered approach that views young people as capable agents in their own safety. Combining behavioral research, social media data analysis, and AI-driven risk detection, the team uncovers how teens experience and respond to online sexual predation.

From this foundation, we are developing sociotechnical interventions that promote safe, empowered digital engagement and drive equity across online spaces.
