Our Affiliation with UC Berkeley
Since its founding in 1988, ICSI has been an Affiliated Institute of the University of California, Berkeley. This relationship has led to a fruitful exchange of expertise and resources that takes many forms. In addition to facilitating research collaborations in areas of shared interest, our affiliation allows for researchers to hold adjunct and volunteer roles at both ICSI and UC Berkeley. Furthermore, UC Berkeley faculty also can serve as mentors to postdoctoral fellows visiting ICSI. Whether or not they also hold a position at UC Berkeley, ICSI researchers enjoy collaborations and affiliations with UC Berkeley’s faculty and research institutes, as well as access to campus resources such as UC Berkeley’s Human Research Protection Program, library resources, Data Center Colocation Services, and visa support and other services.
Our Partnership with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
ICSI benefits from its close proximity to and longstanding relationship with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), a U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratory located in Berkeley. Our Memorandum of Understanding with LBNL provides a foundation for research collaborations, and scientists and engineers with positions at LBNL can apply for Principal Investigator status at ICSI to pursue non-DOE research funding opportunities through ICSI. Many individuals have taken advantage of this partnership opportunity over the years, leading to fruitful research collaborations in fields of common interest such as computer science, data science, and scientific machine learning. In addition, ICSI and LBNL hold joint workshops, conference poster sessions, and seminars to exchange knowledge and ideas and foster collaborations.
Our Research and Program Sponsors
Sponsors from government, industry, and philanthropic organizations support our research programs and/or fund fellowships through which visiting scholars come to ICSI to enrich their careers and collaborate on groundbreaking research.
