Biography

Nicholas Weaver, PhD, is a Senior Research Scientist and Research Mentor at ICSI. He is also the CEO/Chief Mad Scientist of Skerry Technologies, a developer of hardware and software for low-cost autonomous drones. 

Dr. Weaver’s research interests focus primarily on digital, explainable, and usually adversarial systems. This includes computer security and network measurement, with an emphasis on both large-scale attacks and large-scale measurement. He joined ICSI in 2003 as a Postdoctoral Fellow and has been a researcher there ever since. He was co-developer of the Netalyzr system, and, in 2011, a co-winner of the FCC Open Internet Research Challenge. He has also previously served as a visiting researcher at UC Berkeley and UC San Diego. Dr. Weaver received both his PhD and his bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley.
