Biography

Andreas Stolcke, PhD, serves as a Non-Resident Fellow at ICSI. He is also a Distinguished AI Scientist and Vice President at Uniphore Technologies, a conversational and business AI company based in Palo Alto, California, where he directs and advises applied science work on text- and speech-based AI applications for tasks such as language transcription, understanding, summarization, and generation, as well as overseeing collaborations with academic groups.

Dr. Stolcke’s research interests include computational linguistics, language modeling, speech recognition, speaker recognition and diarization, and paralinguistics (e.g., sentiment and emotion recognition), with over 300 papers and patents in these areas. His open-source SRI Language Modeling Toolkit is widely used in academia. 

Dr. Stolcke obtained his PhD from UC Berkeley and has previously been associated with ICSI as a research assistant and postdoctoral researcher. Subsequently, he worked as a researcher/scientist at SRI International, Microsoft, and Amazon. While at SRI he collaborated with ICSI by leading joint government-funded research projects, and later became an ICSI External Fellow while working at Microsoft. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, of the International Speech Communication Association, and of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association, and has served as a Distinguished Industry Speaker for the IEEE Signal Processing Society.
