Julia Bernd

Biography

Julia Bernd is a Research Scientist in Usable Security and Privacy at ICSI, where her research focuses on user privacy expectations, human-computer interaction, differential impacts of new technologies on at-risk populations, and the intersections of privacy and social power dynamics. At ICSI, she has been involved in program evaluations; curriculum projects in privacy, security, and the social impacts of computing; and open-access corpus development. 

Bernd received her MA in linguistics from Stanford University, and has applied her academic training to practical causes by working on a wide variety of social-science and public-health research projects around the Bay Area. She has also worked as a researcher at UC Berkeley and a research consultant with Cause Data Collective, and supported UpRise Campaigns SPC in various capacities.
