Sebastian Benthall

Biography

Sebastian Benthall, PhD, is a Research Scientist and Research Mentor at ICSI. He is also a Research Director at the Information Law Institute, in New York University School of Law. 

Dr. Benthall applies computational social science and complexity science techniques to problems in software accountability, information technology policy, and AI ethics. Current projects include designing fiduciary artificial intelligence and envisioning new directions for socially beneficial computer and information science research. His work has been supported by the NSF, DARPA, the Future of Life Foundation, the Sloan Foundation, and the Microsoft Corporation. 

Dr. Benthall holds a PhD in information management and systems from UC Berkeley.
