Chunlei Liu

Biography

Chunlei Liu, PhD, is a Research Mentor at ICSI and a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) and the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute at UC Berkeley. 

Dr. Liu studies brain imaging and modulation, with a focus on developing engineering approaches to study the brain. His current research activities span three areas: developing non-invasive MRI techniques for visualizing human brain structure and function; developing non-invasive remote cell modulation techniques to modulate neuronal activity; and applications relevant to the understanding and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

Dr. Liu was previously an Associate Professor of Radiology and Biomedical Engineering at Duke University and, prior to that, a Research Associate at Stanford University. He earned his PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford University. He also holds a BS in physics from Peking University and an MS in physics from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
