Vani Mandava

Biography

Vani Mandava serves as a member of ICSI’s Technical Advisory Committee. She is Head of Engineering for the Scientific Software Engineering Center (SSEC) of the eScience Institute at the University of Washington (UW). The primary mission of SSEC is to collaborate with researchers from UW and around the world to create visionary, innovative, and resilient solutions for pressing research and societal challenges. She is responsible for setting up the SSEC organization and partnering with research investigators to define the priorities and execution of software infrastructure that will strengthen the scientific software community. Prior to joining UW in 2022, Vani spent over two decades at Microsoft, in various roles within engineering organizations creating software impacting millions of users. She spent a decade at Microsoft Research where she served as Director of Data Science managing a portfolio of AI and data science research collaborations with academia. She has patents in enterprise software and deep experience creating V1 software that scales across clients, enterprise, and cloud services.
