Biography

Oliver Rübel, PhD, is a Research Affiliate and Research Mentor at ICSI. He is also a Staff Scientist in the Computational Biosciences Group of the Scientific Data Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. 

Dr. Rübel’s research interests focus on the intersection of visualization, machine learning, and data management for large-scale and high-dimensional data. Particular areas of focus include machine learning, visualization, and analytics algorithms and methods for large-scale, high-dimensional, and multi-modal data; data modeling and management for efficient data sharing and integration; and data and analysis systems to enable data sharing, reuse, and analysis. He collaborates to apply this work across a wide range of areas, including gene expression, metabolomics, particle physics, finance, neuroscience, and climate. He has contributed to and led the design, implementation, and development of visualization and analysis applications including NWB, HDMF, PointCloudXplore, and OpenMSI, among others. 

Dr. Rübel received his PhD in computer science from the University of Kaiserslautern in Germany.
