Simons Institute slide by Richard KarpAt ICSI's Research Review on October 12, Richard Karp, the director of the new Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing and head of the Algorithms Group at ICSI, gave a talk about the planned affiliation between Simons Institute and ICSI.

The Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing was established in July with a grant from the Simons Foundation, and will be located in the Calvin building on the UC Berkeley campus. For at least the next two years, one ICSI visitor or postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to work jointly with ICSI and the Simons Institute. Professor Karp established the Algorithms Group at ICSI and has led the group since then with the exception of four years spent at University of Washington. He brings many years of expertise in the theory of computation to his new role leading the Simons Institute. ICSI looks forward to continuing to work with Professor Karp through collaboration between ICSI and the Simons Institute. His talk outlined research plans for Simons Institute as well as planned collaborations with ICSI and other research facilities.
